Edge / Access / WAN Router Solution

Edge routers which forward packets to an external network such as the Internet are pervasive - deployed at every premises data center, corporate headquarters location, and branch office. But, as WAN connection speeds need to increase, existing routers are either unable to achieve higher speeds at all, or too expensive to upgrade. New routers from legacy brand vendors are also loaded with complex software, hardware, and service charges.

 

Solution

TNSR® software provides 5, 10, 25, 40 Gbps or more routing via "ASIC-speed" software on commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware.

Core Router

Core routers provide a routing backbone for transit traffic to flow from one end of a network to another. Different from edge routers, they are:

  • Typically architected around fewer, really-high bandwidth connections, e.g., 40 to 100 Gbps or more
  • Apply significantly less policy treatment than at the edge
  • Typically only connect to other core routers and edge routers
  • Located "inside" the network (vs.edge routers which connect to the edges of other networks, and are, therefore, at the "boundary" or "edge" of a network

Just as with edge routers, the buyer challenge is finding a solution with the best price-performance.

Topology Edge_Access_WAN Router

 

TNSR software can be deployed on a Netgate appliance, third-party appliance, virtual machine, or cloud compute instance - enabling WAN edge or core router needs to be commissioned effectively anywhere. Per instance bandwidth needs are easy to rightsize - both initially and as routing needs increase. High availability can be provisioned in dual- or multi-node fashion using VRRP.
